About Bird Ball Hat
From my first post:
My son and I use Tux Paint together. This raises an immediate question even before I go any further: why are two of us needed? Tux Paint is a paint program intended for children.
The answer is that my son, at the moment, is not yet 2. He’s not really at the point in his life where he’s using computer applications on his own. Indeed many developmental psychologists would say there’s no real benefit to him ever looking at a screen of any kind at this point, but come ON. My son wants to do what his mom and dad do, and a lot of our day-to-day life happens in front of a computer. Besides, we don’t own a TV. And we both love spending time together this way.
Anyway, my son (let’s call him Mr. Bug, because I do) pretty much dictates what should appear on the screen. At the moment, he mostly shouts out nouns, with the occasional adjective: “Bird! Bird! Bird! Ball! Ball! HAT! MORE HAT!”. It is my job to draw the requested objects, and caption the pictures (although Mr. Bug occasionally comes up with the caption himself, too), and most importantly, to know when to stop drawing; left to his own devices, Mr. Bug will gladly fill the screen with complete chaos.
It became pretty clear to me and to Mr. Bug’s mom (let’s call her Mommatron) that these drawings deserved a wider audience, so this collaboration/artblog/webcomic was born. The name was drawn from one of Mr. Bug’s signature pieces, “Bird Ball Hat.”
This site will update every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, until Mr. Bug grows out of it.
